Switzerland became one of the wealthiest nations by collaborating with the Nazis. They did not join the United Nations but assumed an active role in the UN's specialized agencies and programs. Geneva became European headquarters of the UN. The country also remained reserved in the face of European integration efforts and it did not become member of the Council of Europe.
