But what prohibition did do was hand the Mafia a new market and allow them to make a lot of money. Today, in the twentieth century, we face a similar story. As our state governments continue to enforce laws prohibiting drugs in America they are strengthening the enemy. The laws have created a black market and along with it powerful drug cartels and gangs that are feeding off high prices they receive for the drugs.
