First of all, The Catcher in the Rye is a "deep" book, and is set in the New York/Pennsylvania area during either 1948 or 1949. By "deep", I mean that the book deals more with the psychological, and requires pretty heavy thinking to understand. but was adequate as it was. The psychological part of the book made up for the lacking plot, however.
In the end, I wouldn't reccommend this book to anyone not in high school, because sometimes I had a hard time looking behind the physical story and seeing the writer's underlying statements, which probably some of which I didn't see anyway. But still, it was a good book, and will continue to be in the future.
