In Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, certain characters show that when they
care for someone, and when they are simple and appreciative of everything they have,

characters can be seen a great number of times through out Charles Dickens’ Great
Expectations . Both their love for Pip, associated with their ability to tolerate Pip’s
mishaps and combined with the simple lives they lead have forged Joe and Biddy into wise
beings. They are incredibly knowledgeable regardless of formal or rational intellect. Many
instances throughout Great Expectations exemplify Joe Gargery and Biddy as intelligent,
caring, and simple people.
