Many American critics have asserted that the most well developed character in The Sun Also Rises is Robert Cohn. Although he is not the protagonist of the hero of this novel, he definitely is like the antihero. All throughout the story, Robert Cohn goes along with the characters to different places. the Hemingway code hero, serving largely as a foil. He is falsely sentimental, maudlin about his emotions, true to no code or no one, and he is totally self involved. The best analogy for the personality of Cohn comes from Hemingway himself: “The steer who had been gored had gotten to his feet and stood against the stone man. None of the bulls came near to him and he did not attempt kin the herd”(145).
