Love is defined by Webster’s II Riverside Dictionary, as an “intense affection”. Well whoever went by the definition of a dictionary anyway? In William Shakespeare’s tragic play, Hamlet, we find two characters that seem to have an “intense attraction” between them, Hamlet and Ophelia. The cherishing words “I love you” are never spoken between Prince Hamlet and Ophelia. They don’t have to. Characters within the play are aware of the unspoken passionate affection between the two. Even if it may be a little harsh at times or maybe even childish, reading between the lines proves that the love is there and in full effect.
