In an incorrect assumption George Wilson murders Gatsby and the takes his own life.
After these events Nick comes to the complete realization that the wealthy were not the people he wanted to live his life with. Nicks sees while trying to arrange Gatsby’s funeral that these people he had been with were exactly like he had first assumed, but didn’t say. They were all superficial with little or no moral values.
