Earth’s Magnetism Geomagnetism refers to the study of earth’s magnetism. As I mentioned before, the process takes approximately 960 years for the earth’s magnetic poles to flip completely. And so, the only way, as far as we know, to switch the poles of a magnet, is to turn the magnet upside-down.
