One could consider the first “computer” to be the abacus of ancient times. Developed around 300 BC, the abacus was used to calculate simple products. However, in my paper I will focus on the first personal computers, the ancestors of our modern PCs. In the past half-century, we have witnessed the greatest technological revolution ever. Things are possible today that were never imagined 50 years ago. We can communicate and access information instantaneously. And with ever evolving technology, the “digital divide” is beginning to close as more and more people have access to computers and the internet. Who knows where we’ll be in another 50 years?
