Capital Punishment: A needless waste. The death penalty was originally brought to America from Europeans in the 1600s (Laurence, 23). The attempt of retribution towards a falsely accused person is far harder to achieve if the person has been forced to live on death row, or impossible if the innocent person has already been executed. The death penalty does not deter criminals from taking another’s life. The state, which uses the death penalty, has an increased murder rate.
