This book takes the reader on a great journey, one filled with excitement and sadness. The reader is a rifleman in Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army, the greatest rifle company in the world. It all starts at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, then escalates to D-Day (Their first combat jump), and then to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest at Berchtesgaden.

All of these missions were not easy for Easy Company, (With the exception of the Eagle’s Nest.) Easy took 150% losses and still came out the victors. Many of these men were desperately poor and had been kicked around by the depression. They had the scars to show for it and many of them were also not educated. The Depression had wrecked their education, and they were still the best fighting company in the world.
